The Pietro d’Abano Thermal Studies Center has just published in the International Journal of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, the most famous magazine on disease worldwide, the results of the research done in collaboration with the Fondazione S. Maugeri IRCCS (Scientific Institute of Montescano) on the treatment of chronic respiratory diseases and the improving respiratory muscle performance given by mud therapy.
For over 30 years the Pietro d’Abano Thermal Studies Center is the guarantor of the effectiveness of the Euganean thermal treatments.
The results of the study on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which causes irreversible airway obstruction compromising breathing capacity in the long term, confirm that mud therapy is also useful to those who suffer from chronic respiratory diseases.
Fabrizio Caldara, Director of the Pietro d’Abano Thermal Studies Center, confirms that through this study it has been shown that, compared with treatment of hydrotherapy, mud therapy produces a significant increase in the capacity of the respiratory muscles to work against a greater than normal resistance. Consequently, the results suggest that the Abano- Montegrotto muds produce an increase in aerobic capacity of the respiratory muscle, which after 12 sessions of treatment works more efficiently, managing to work for a longer time and with a higher load than normal.
